What is the Government Voucher Scheme?
If you want to discuss children, or children and your shared finances, you can get £500 towards joint sessions.
How it works
The government voucher scheme provides free financial support to separating or divorcing couples with children. The £500 goes towards mediation costs and is available regardless of income. This is per family, so if you and your ex are private clients, you’ll share the amount.
Accessing the voucher
You’ll need to attend a mediation information and assessment meeting, also known as a MIAM, where your eligibility for the voucher scheme will be assessed. The MIAM is to help identify whether your differences can be resolved without going to court and whether mediation is the way forward.
Applying for the voucher
Your mediator will apply for the voucher on your behalf. You’ll need to give them written consent by email. The email must confirm the following:
- You and your ex have asked your mediator to make the application.
- Neither of you has already applied for the voucher.
- You consent to any necessary personal information to be given to the Family Mediation Council.
How the voucher is paid
Once your mediation sessions have finished, the voucher goes directly to your mediator. Once your £500 has been spent on sessions you can choose to continue mediation privately if you wish. Please feel free to talk about this with our team.
